Executive Director: George Sachs
George Sachs is
currently working as a psychology intern at the Children's Institute in Torrance, California. He treats children and families afflicted by trauma and abuse. Last year George was an advanced therapeutic extern at John Stroger Hospital, providing individual and group therapy to adolescents. He also consulted in the emergency room offering psychological assessments of adult and pediatric patients.
This experience built upon George Sachs' externship in 2005 at Mt. Sinai Hospital where he did individual and family therapy with a diverse population of adolescent and child clients. At Mt. Sinai George also co-led a parenting group, helping caregivers cope with their substantial parental frustrations.
As a diagnostic extern at the Child Study Center, George performed assessments of children presenting with emotional and behavioral disorders related to trauma, abuse and the effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. The assessments supported a CDC study on the efficacy of group therapy for children with Fetal-Alcohol SYndrome. Continuing his interest in research, George facilitated an adolescent group at the Institute of Juvenile Research (University of Illinois at Chicago) as part of a NIMH study on HIV prevention in at–risk adolescents.
At the University of Chicago’s Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School George worked as a counselor in the school’s residential dormitory. He managed the therapeutic care of a group of emotionally disturbed adolescents. This position exposed him to more serious pediatric mental illnesses and taught him how to help children and adolescents deescalate from psychological emergencies.
Prior to graduate school George worked in children's television and multimedia in New York City. He wrote two Sabrina: The Teenage Witch CD-ROMS and developed a preschool television series with former Sesame Street producer Al Hyslop.
